"Social Responsibility and Employee Engagement" Panel

Citizenship, Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, Employee Engagement, Corporate Philanthropy, Green Business, Carbon Footprint – these are all issues that today’s manager must somehow unravel and integrate into a strategic plan in order to build a competitive advantage.  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is one of today’s leading business challenges.  How a company positions its CSR agenda and reputation with relation to its customers and employees has lasting implications for the recruitment and retention of both.

Good CSR can not overcome a bad business plan – it never has and never will.  The difference today is that a good business plan cannot overcome bad CSR.  In an age of instant information, blogs and 24 hour news, bad citizenship will be punished immediately by customers, employees and shareholders alike.  The new challenge for HR professionals will be to integrate CSR into HR practice.  Everything from hiring and evaluation systems to incentives and training will be affected by the number one challenge faced by business today: How to embed CSR into the cultural fabric of the organization.

This presentation will focus on the current state of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and how this impacts employee engagement.  You will hear the challenges that organizations face in making this part of the culture and communicating this as a corporate strategy.  The panel will share best practices and ideas in the area of social responsibility.  Also, they will share the benefits of good CSR and the impact on the human resources professional.

Annual Seattle SHRM Fundraiser and Silent Auction

Each year, Seattle SHRM selects a local charity in which to donate a portion of the proceeds from the Seattle SHRM Annual Auction. This year a portion of the proceeds will benefit Northwest Harvest, www.northwestharvest.org, Washington’s own statewide hunger agency.  Every year, Northwest Harvest secures 18 million pounds of nutritious food for distribution to nearly 300 food programs across Washington State.  More than 50% of those served are children and the elderly.  In these difficult economic times, our food banks are struggling to keep up with the demands. In addition to supporting Northwest Harvest, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the SHRM Foundation. Donations are a tax-deductible expense.

Click HERE if you would like to donate to the auction.

Your generosity will be recognized on our web site and in our program; you and your company can donate items.  Selections that have been popular in the past include gift certificates, gift baskets, wine, holiday décor, getaways, special event tickets and other items.
